Downton Abbey: Rules for Household Staff by Charles Carson
I am a loyal fan of Downton Abbey and Mr. Carson is one of my favorite characters in the series, so you can imagine my delight. This is a plethora of information for anyone who is a fan or is interested or researching the life of a servant or butler in the 1920's. Life was one of entitlement, servitude, or hard work to survive during this era. I could hear Mr. Carson's voice as I was reading this book. I will certainly enjoy the show even more now that I have some insight on the work required to keep a staff in check and running smoothly.
"Well, in my opinion, to misquote Dr. Johnson, if you’re tired of style, you are tired of life." – Mr. Carson
